For UK Vinted, Depop and eBay sellers

Know what you made. Know what HMRC wants.

Flipsum works out your real profit after fees, postage and stock costs, pulls in sales from your sale emails, and tells you in plain English whether you need to do anything about tax.

Aiming to launch in January 2027, before the Self Assessment deadline.

Why now

HMRC now sees your sales.

30 sales

or about £1,700 (€2,000) in a calendar year, and Vinted, Depop, eBay and other platforms send your details to HMRC. This has applied since 1 January 2024.

~4m

seller accounts were reported to HMRC in 2025, up from about 1.5m the year before. Being reported doesn't mean you owe tax, but you should know where you stand. Source: BDO FOI

Selling your own old clothes is generally not taxable. Buying things to sell on for profit usually is, once your sales go over £1,000 in a tax year. Flipsum helps you tell the difference.

What Flipsum does

Less typing. Straight answers.

  • 01

    Sales come in by themselves

Forward your "you've sold an item" emails and Flipsum logs the sale, price and fees. No logging into your Vinted account, no scraping.

  • 02

    Personal or stock?

Tag each sale as your own stuff or resale stock. Only stock counts towards profit and tax, so clear-outs don't skew your numbers.

  • 03

Allowance or expenses, picked for you

You can use the £1,000 trading allowance or claim your costs, not both. Flipsum shows which one leaves you better off.

  • 04

    Threshold meters

See how close you are to the 30-sale reporting line on each platform and to the £1,000 allowance, before you cross them.

  • 05

    Bundles and bales

Bought a bale or a car boot haul? Split the cost across every item so each sale shows its real margin.

  • 06

    Tax Pack

Totals laid out ready for your Self Assessment, plus a spreadsheet for your accountant. Deadline reminders for 5 October and 31 January.

Questions

Fair questions.

Is this tax advice?

No. Flipsum keeps your records and gives estimates based on HMRC's published rules. For anything unusual, speak to an accountant or check GOV.UK.

Do you log into my Vinted account?

No. Flipsum never asks for your marketplace password. Sales come in from emails you forward, a CSV or manual entry.

Does being reported to HMRC mean I owe tax?

No. Platforms report sellers who pass 30 sales or about £1,700 a year. Whether you owe tax depends on whether you're trading and how much you made. Try the free check.

When does it launch?

We're aiming for January 2027, with a beta before then for people on the waitlist.
